As of Friday, June 4, I began a nine-week journey called Couch to 5k, a popular running training program that is designed to train ‘couch potatoes’ to run a full 5k (3.1 miles) race. There are many ways to go about it all, but I downloaded a cool iPhone app that allows you to plug in your iTunes playlist with three 30-minute workouts a week.
So far, I have completed the workouts for week one; I was planning on spacing them out a little more, but the timing just worked out well for work and stuff – and honestly, I wanted to run again today! How weird – I guess motivation strikes at the weirdest times!! Anywho, week one consisted of a 31-minute workout – that included a five minute warm-up and cool-down, then alternating runs (60 seconds) and walks (90 seconds). The first day was definitely the hardest..working up the motivation and what not, plus I ran in the morning – so I had to deal with the sun AND the humidity. Ugh! On top of that, my playlist wasn’t quite ready (some songs repeated, some slow songs were added by mistake, etc.) But, the next one was much better, I ran at night, right around sunset…slight breeze, more upbeat songs, etc. By tonight, the music was right on and I thought I would try the workout indoors, on the treadmill – that was a little challenging; with the adjustment of the speeds and what not, but at least sweat wasn’t blinding me, hah!
