A lot bit Awesome!

I have to admit, I sometimes catch on to trends or popular things a little late, and so my foray into the world of Wicked (and pretty much, all Broadway-related musical-y stuff) occurred just last year – but you know what they say…better late than never!  (They might also say, don’t overuse run-on sentences, but hey, what do they know, right 😉 !??!?)

As I browsed the aisles of the library, I came upon Kristin Chenowith’s autobiography, A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love and Faith in Stages – and even though I fully admit I knew very close to nothing about K-Chen’s life besides the fact that she IS/WAS/WILL ALWAYS BE Galinda and that she won an award for Pushing Daisies, I was intrigued.  Maybe it was the glitteriness of the title…or the fact that the hardcover encasing the pages was HOT PINK…I mean, yes, I fully admit to judging books by their covers…but I had to pick it up – and it’s the library for cryin’ out loud!  It wasn’t like I was risking big money if the book wasn’t good, y’know?!

Within two days, however, I was delighted to see that I actually LOVED it!  On lunch break, and before bed, I flew through Chenowith’s lighthearted writing style.  It has been TOO long since I read a book that really made me laugh out loud – and even nod with understanding in some of the more somber bits.  From stories told from the many sets she worked on, to tales of relationships, friendships and other ships…it was just picturesque and FUN.  I could literally SEE her life as the pages turned, and I appreciated the interspersed randomness (hello, tucked-in recipes!) and raw honesty you could feel as you read.

I am truly glad that I picked up this impulse read, and if you get a chance, I’d highly recommend it for a quick and inspiring read.  I may not be anything even close to an entertainer, but I do think that anyone who reads this book can find a relatable message or theme to take with them.

Do you have a favorite biography?

And up next…

I am already about 80+ pages in, but so far, so good!  Definitely a different type of book, but I am enjoying it!
