the ‘shortlong’ run

Sunday morning – set my alarm for 6 AM (slept in since it was only 8 miles) and set out on the regular course loop.

As evidenced by metrics, it was a pretty solid run.  I am still not going as slow as the training prescribes, but I have come to the conclusion that it is okay.  Easy pace is what my body tells me!  The only part I’d work on is the super variance between Mile 1 and Mile 2!  I’d like to ensure negative splits when it comes to race day.

Along with the fabulous weather (I want to say it was high 70’s and low humidity for about 90 percent of the run) the big motivators for my run yesterday can be summed up in two words: new gear!

Colors are your friend.

I was wearing:

  • a new (to me!) tank that my sister brought – it was too big for her Zumba-ing, but proved to be a great running top for me!
  • new Adidas running shorts – my mom bought these for me!  (they’re like these)
  • Jane headband that I purchased last week
  • Fuel belt Helium (!!)
Ohhhh snap!!!  That fuel belt rocked my run, for sure.  See, I have tried the Camelbak, the Nathan triangle pak, holding a bottle in my hand, going waterless (don’t recommend!) and though each one method has provided a learning lesson or experience, my early assessment of the Fuel Belt is this: BUY ONE NOW.  Soo cool.  It’s light, easy to access and almost makes you forget you’re carrying hydration.  Oh, and so easy to clean! 🙂
After what I felt to be a bit of a mediocre week for running, yesterday’s run definitely pumped back up my enthusiasm!
What’s your favorite item/piece of running gear?
