This Holiday Season, I don’t have a wish list.
I don’t mean to sound like a grinch, or a scrooge or any other negative connotation of a Christmas-y character, but there is nothing that I truly need. Gifts are fun, sure, but in the grand scheme of things, I already got my present, which was our wonderful trip to Hawaii with family.
As time goes by, I have come to the realization that time is really the most valued thing you could give – and most definitely the best thing to receive, too. The world moves FAST and once a moment passes you, you will never get that moment back…so make the most of it. Because really, isn’t that what’s most important?
Which brings me to my other thought…
I saw a friend post this on Facebook this week and I was immediately struck by it. Usually, these sorts of images do make me kind of uncomfortable, admittedly, because they barely scratch the surface of the situation. But this time, the image really spoke to me – and got me thinking. How can we help? What can we do? Can we really make a difference in this world??
When I looked further into the image, I was brought to an article which was entitled, “So This is Christmas?” – and I was so glad it did. The writer, ‘Stephanie’ – shared her feelings on the consumer-driven side of the holidays – and more importantly, how to make even the smallest changes and truly give gifts that endure. Some of her suggestions were simple acts of kindness, like smiling, opening a door for someone – or broader selfless actions, like donating to charity, or lending your time (or your ear!)
No matter what you choose to do, I hope that this Holiday Season, you take a moment and think about YOUR big picture.
