This weekend has been full of ups and downs – but today, Friday – there’s just something in the air: everything is just better!! Could be in part to the great start I had this morning – 5 mile brisk run + an invitation to check out the new The Shops at Stonefield!
I took my lunch a bit early so I could check out Charlottesville’s newest shopping, dining and gathering place – it’s opening in phases, so today saw Pier One’s opening, and next week, a fantastic new movie theater (sorely needed in town – and opening early for some really cool community events that feature $2 movies)! It was really neat to get a bit of a behind the scenes look at the place.
Along with good times of checking out the new buildings/complex, this event was awesome because I finally got to meet Jen – one of my favorite local tweeters/bloggers – and Ryan, super star communications director for EDENS! So awesome when you meet virtual friends IRL!
The second highlight of the tour was getting a peek inside one of the most exciting (to me!) new additions to the Charlottesville shoppperscape: a long-awaited Trader Joe’s! We originally had been told that we wouldn’t be able to take a look inside yet, but Craig, a crew member there, was friendly enough to open the doors for us to take a walk around:
Craig explained to us that the designers and crew were really interested in reflecting local themes throughout the store – from the murals (as pictured above) to the little details (lamps above the cash registers that look like the streetlights on the Downtown Mall). It was really neat to see these little incorporations…and ESPECIALLY awesome to know that the store was opening very soon (11/14)!
Along with TJs, there will be a plethora of new retail, dining and entertainment venues, including major retailers like Brooks Bros, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma, juxtaposed with local businesses like Blue Ridge Mountain sports (they’re creating their new flagship store here!) We weren’t privy to ALL the new names coming to town (some were alluded to as ‘high end women’s fitness wear,’ for example) but it was enough to warrant some “oohs” and “ahhs” from our group 🙂
Kath attended the preview event yesterday (check out her awesome recap here, which includes lots of great details about the concepts behind the design elements and inspiration) along with some other great local bloggers so I look forward to what everyone’s thoughts on this new local destination are. I personally am quite excited about it because it is about two miles from our condo and there will be many new places to explore. While the traffic situation could be a bit hairy (it’s built near an intersection that is already pretty congested) I think it will be worth the extra effort.
Now, if you got this far in the post, I think you deserve a bit of a prize….don’t you?
Well, as part of my tour, I got a lil extra swag…in the form of two (2) Regal Movie passes to our new theater! If you’re not local…do not dismay! They are good at any location – not for sale – and cannot be used for “NO PASS” attractions – and they expire (no joke) on 12/31/2099. Of course it would be awesome if you WERE local so you could watch a movie with ME, but I digress…
To win the two (2) Regal Movie passes, leave a comment answering one simple question: Who would YOU take to the movies with these passes? Leave your response by Wednesday, November 7 at 11:59 PM, and I will draw a random winner via random.org – winner posted on my November 8 post!
Special thanks to all those at Stonefield VA that made this possible! Excited to visit again soon!!
