A few weeks ago, while I was on staycation with my sister in Orlando, I received the incredible news (via email) that I would be joining the Ambassador Team for the 26.2 with DONNA event in Jacksonville, this coming February 2014. Words could not express just how excited I was to receive this news, as I had heard so many great things about this event from their social media butterfly / my beautiful friend, Marcia.

Scheduled for the weekend of February 22, 26.2 with DONNA events truly boast something for everyone:

…and best of all, every single dollar of proceeds and raised funds go DIRECTLY to beneficiaries! YES, you read that right: Seventy percent of proceeds go to Mayo Clinic for bench top genomics breast cancer research, and the remaining 30 percent go to The Donna Foundation to help breast cancer patients with critical financial needs.

By simply registering for any of these races, you can feel like you’re giving back; you see, since 26.2 with DONNA enjoys 501(c)(3) charity status, which makes donations – as well as race registration – largely tax deductible!

Wish you could run but can’t see fitting the race weekend into your 2014 schedule? You can still earn the sparkling DONNA “Suncatcher” medal! How? With the DONNA Virtual, of course! With your race registration fee (see page for details) and a $150 fundraising minimum, a keepsake race bib and fabulous medal will be en route to your home, no matter where you live!

As for me, I will be going the distance and have committed to the event namesake’s 26.2 – or full marathon! Yes, my ninth full! My official training started just last week, and I am working hard to make another Boston Qualifying attempt, as the course has been certified as one of the fastest in Florida! If that was not enough, I’ve decided to also join my Ambassador Team’s fundraising group, with a personal goal of raising $1,000! I am busy coming up with some incentives and ideas to raise money for this worthy cause, and have created my fundraising page, which you can access here: http://donate.breastcancermarathon.com/2014Marathon/krissymmurphy.

Ever since I began my running journey in 2010, I have made the choice to commit to a variety of causes and organizations that I believe in to make running bigger than me – through personal fundraising efforts, as well as contributing to friends and family that are like-minded. I hope that our work can truly make a difference in the world around us, and especially in our “local” communities, which makes DONNA an incredible and worthy event to support.

I am so very excited about this opportunity, and am over the moon that I can finally share all of this information with you, my family and friends! Thank you for the support you provide to me daily, via kind words, comments and thoughts – without that, I don’t know where I’d be today!

Please do not hesitate to me via the blog, email or other social media sources should you have any questions, concerns or suggestions for the event, my fundraising, or my training – and in the meantime, why not check out all of DONNA’s great social media channels, too:

Are you running DONNA? Have you run before? Do you run/fundraise?

  1. Congrats!! I have heard about the race before. I’ve never done a race fundraiser, but something I’m not opposed to. I know you’ll do a great job!
