This morning, as I took Dug on a walk, I was daydreaming about ways I could further spread the word about my fundraising efforts for the 26.2 with DONNA, thinking about its mission, and about the inspiring meeting that was held between my fellow ambassadors last week. In that power-packed talk, we discussed logistics, planning, and most memorably, the inspiring messages behind the cause.
You see, Donna means so much more than dressing in pink and raising money – it’s about facing a challenge, accepting it, and moving forward – all with LOVE. We often see messages of FIGHTING or BEATING cancer, which is all well and good, but why fight angry words with more? With the 26.2 with Donna, and the DONNA Foundation, we’re teaming up to FINISH cancer for good.
Donna Deegan, the namesake and driver of this all, is a 3-time breast cancer survivor who has channeled her energy and positivity into something truly remarkable. Whereas she could have been afraid or given up so many times in her battles, she chose the alternative: LOVE.
When I returned from my walk, I saw a fitting quote, from Martin Luther King, Jr., tweeted from my friend Karen that not only felt appropriate for today (MLK Jr Day) but for Donna, and life in general:
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
So today, and everyday, let’s follow in that example.
