Happy National Dog Day (+ Doggy Dashers Promo Code)!

doggiesThis post is sponsored by Doggy Dashers Run & Walk – they have provided my readers a special promo code, and a complimentary entry to this event. All opinions are my own.

Did you know that August 26 is National Dog Day? Well – despite it really being Dog’s Day all year round in our household, it really is a thing (because the Internet says so) so why not celebrate it?

Across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, I was delighted throughout the day to see countless pics of pups and their proud owners, which made me super happy. Of course, I had to share a collage of our sweet little ones (here) as well as take a moment to think about how much better life is with our four-legged pals.

In just a few weeks, we will celebrate Dug’s “gotcha” day, a time I fondly look back upon (his adoption story here) and find it hard to believe was already two years ago! He’s really turned out to be the most rambunctious, rebellious, yet snuggly and wonderful dog ever….a perfect foil to our newer pup pal, Cosmo, a mild-mannered and super sweet “senior” who’s been cuddling his way into our hearts for the past five months! We couldn’t have asked for two more sweet rescue boys!

Me and Dug at a Doggy Dash, January 2015.

As different as they are, they definitely have one HUGE thing in common – they love to play outside! In the heat of the summer, we have to be more cautious about what time we go out, and for how long, but if these guys had their way, they’d run all day (hah, that even rhymed).

I’ve often likened the two pups’ running styles into different workouts – with Dug, he can MOVE! He’s definitely a sprinter, and when there are low distractions (like other dogs, sprinklers, or smelly things to roll in) he is a great partner for speed work. However, with his short body and legs, endurance is not his forte, and after a few fartleks, he’s ready for a nap!

Cosmo, on the other hand, is all about consistency. He’s a trusty partner for an easy run, mile after mile. We’ve done up to 5K together, where he eased from a 10 minute pace, negative splitting into an average of 9:40 over the 3.1 miles, and when we reached home, he looked really disappointed that we were done! Definitely a strong and steady pup!

Between the two of them, there’s always fun on the run – and, with everything else! We love relaxing as a family at the end of the day, piled up on our blanket, watching TV, or eating Peanut Butter and Bananas, too!

Having fun together – no matter what we’re doing – is the reason I was instantly drawn to a fun opportunity that appeared in my inbox this week: a chance to share the message of a Virtual Run and Walk that benefits animals in need!

doggy_dashers_logo_green.psdThe Doggy Dashers Virtual Run & Walk is a fun event that invites runners, walkers, adults, kids, families and of course, dogs and pets to join together for a 5K or 10K to benefit animals in need. The proceeds of this event benefit Northwest Boxer Rescue, an organization that aids a network of foster homes spanning throughout WA, OR, ID, MT, and CA.

Registration is NOW OPEN for this fun Virtual event  – which, if you’ve never done a virtual race before – is super easy! Just sign up, complete the distance when you can, then you will earn your swag (including a sweet medal)! After registration is officially closed, you report your results online, and BONUS, you may even be eligible for additional cool prizes!

Through my partnership with Doggy Dashers, I am proud to share a special 10 PERCENT OFF discount code – just use krissy10 when you register!

I am excited to participate in this event with my two pups – and I hope that when we spread the love and message, we can help more loving pups find new homes and fun families, too!

What are your favorite things to do with your dogs? Have you ever done a virtual race?

  1. Great post! I love my furbaby so much 🙂 We haven’t done a virtual run together, but we did do the Fast and the Furry 8k. She ran it this year with my husband and ran like 6:10 min/miles! I couldn’t believe it. Vizslas are fast.
