Where does the time go?

No, really?

Believe it or not, our Abby is already 7.5 weeks old! She’s outgrown her collection of preemie clothes, and even some of her newborn sized onesies (depending on brand). She’s still on her every two hours feeding schedule, but she’s got 1000% more efficient at nursing (she does NOT mess around when it’s mealtime!) and loves her naps!

Next week, we’ll take her to her 8-week checkup (and her first round of immunizations) and I am anxious to see how much weight she’s gained in the past few weeks. Hopefully, she’ll get the “all clear” for backing off supplementation, assuming she’s continuing in the right direction on the growth curve!

Along with the theme of time moving WAY TOO FAST, so has my grand scheme of being able to blog regularly 😉 I foolishly believed, before she arrived, that working from home would mean more time to write! Hah! Well, I definitely have lots of topics floating around my mind, but often don’t get much time to actually organize my thoughts into coherent sentences – so excuse me if this post gets too off topic!

Anywho.

As the title of this post suggests, I’ve been thinking about the essential THINGS that have helped me keep a tiny human alive for almost two months (!!) so here goes:

  1. Lillebaby Complete Airflow – this thing is magical. Seriously. I mean, when hubs and I were researching baby carriers, I imagined that I’d use it for walking the dog, going to the store, and in the future, carrying babes around the Disney parks – but it’s proven to be a LOT more versatile than that! Abby loves being worn from our first walk in the morning, when I am doing chores around the house, walking around Target, and even when I do core exercises (bending down without bending = seriuos ab work). This carrier features 3D breathable mesh, allows for a variety of carrying positions, and doesn’t require an infant insert, so I’ve been using it since I estimated she was ~7 lbs. I love it!
  2. MAM Anti-colic Bottle – when we were given the directive to supplement Abby’s feeding, I started out with the bottles I had researched/had on my registry, the tommee tippee bottles. They seemed alright at the time (I had nothing to compare them to) but Abby would dribble and spill formula everywhere, despite the bottles claim of being “slow flow.” We bought special bibs, tried different feeding positions, etc…til I thought, hey, why not try a new bottle? SO GLAD I DID! These bottles are so much easier to hold, actually function in a SLOW flow, and they encourage her latching position, like nursing. Plus, they’re really cute. So, there’s that! We also use these when she has pumped breastmilk (when daddy is watching her).
  3. Nordictrack 1750 – okay, this is not a “baby” item, per se, but this has been the BEST gift ever (it was my Anniversary/Xmas/Birthday gift from hubs). Before I was cleared to run, I did incline walking, and now that I can kick it back up a notch, throwing down a 5K in the evening when Abby’s with daddy is the BEST energy boost! I haven’t even explored all the functions on the machine, but I am so thankful for a convenient way to get some mileage in, no matter the time of day (or type of weather).

…which leads me to one seemingly unrelated note.

See, I have not gone further than 3 miles on the road (or treadmill) since October…but yet, with 26.2 with DONNA weekend coming up, it’s hard for me to fathom doing JUST the 5K on Saturday of race weekend. So, I have this crazy idea…of maybe…possibly doing the half marathon.

I mean, it’s a generous course limit, it’s for a good cause…and I mean, it’s DONNA! I’ve done the marathon the past two years, so hey, I am being reasonable to consider “JUST” the half, right? Not only will I get to share in the excitement of what I believe to be the most amazing and inspiring race weekend in Florida, but it could be the kick start I need to really get back in the active game!

So, here’s what I am thinking…in the next 14 days, if I can raise $255, I’ll run the half marathon. Okay, running might be a bit of an exaggeration for what I would do to complete the 13.1 miles, but you know what I mean 🙂
