A little over a month ago, I was feeling motivated and ready to run – searching for my next 26.2, and throwing down more miles in a month than I had in more than a year.
Well, here it is – one day left in April, and while I’ve not reached my mileage goals for the month, I *HAVE* chosen my next marathon!
Registration opens May 1 for this highly-rated, scenic and not-too-far-a-drive-for-me race, and I am stoked! Taking place over the last weekend of January 2017, it gives me a good chunk of time to build a mileage base, then start legit training at the end of the summer.
Sure, the prospect of summer training (again) is a little intimidating, but I am excited about getting back into the groove. As soon as Abby is cleared to be my co-pilot (post 6-month well-baby check), I am excited to get running with her outside in the jogger, which will be nice for building mileage in easy runs.
Additionally, I am starting to look at regional race calendars to add in a sprinkling of events, both to “check in” on my progress, and to motivate myself, too!
I am so excited to have a running goal again, and even more happy that it’s something that I will be able to share with Abby…and who knows, maybe it will inspire her to do the same someday!
What are your running goals for the year?
Good to see that you’re thinking marathons again. I’m making a list of marathon possibilities for January/February, and Celebration is on the list of maybe’s.
Sounds like a great plan, Krissy! I currently only have a 10k on my calendar but the intent of that race was to give me a goal for coming back from injury so that I have some structure to running but also a manageable distance for building back up. I’m considering a fall half.
