My Favorite Race Weekend!

2011, 2013, 2015…I didn’t really *mean* to create an “every other year” streak, but it happened: my repeat-running of the runDisney Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend.

Disneyland, 2013

Now, I realize saying this, I will be dating myself, but I remember back when the Disneyland Half Marathon was the ONLY Disneyland race you could run to complete your Coast to Coast Challenge….oh, back in the day, indeed.

…but I digress.

I don’t know if it’s the nostalgia factor (the 2011 running was my second-ever half marathon, and a major PR), the theming, or what – but it became a race that grew extremely close to my heart. In a world of so many races to choose from, it’s the only one that I have returned to, thrice.

Of course, in 2013, the game was changed a bit with the addition of the first non-WDW Marathon Weekend challenge, the Dumbo Double Dare (now known as the Disneyland Double Dare), but it just made it even more FUN. That year, I had a blast and a half with two races (10K + 13.1), fun meetups, and lots of fun in the parks.

Diamond Girls Weekend <3, 2015.

In 2015, I ran Disney in a big way with my first Goofy Challenge in January, followed by a return to Disneyland and Dumbo in September, which I ran 24-weeks pregnant 🙂 Earning that Coast to Coast was so sweet, not only carrying my precious cargo, but being able to enjoy the Diamond Celebration of Disneyland Park, surrounded by amazing friends – it was an experience I will never, ever forget.

So, it is with a bit of a heavy heart as I write this, as my streak has now ended (I know, I know, I cannot complain too much, as I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Disneyland this past May for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon, which was incredible), but I do look forward to following along social media for my many friends that are making the trip!

My advice, if this is your first Disneyland Half? Just take it all in! Experience the rush of energy from fellow runners, enjoy the classic attractions in the parks, and most of all, don’t forget to stop and thank your lucky stars that you have the chance to run in the Happiest Place on Earth – I know it is for me!
